American Idol season 9 contestant John Park auditioned in Chicago, Illinois. His audition aired on January 19, 2010, featuring judges Randy Jackson, Kara DioGuardi, Simon Cowell and guest judge Shania Twain. Park is a member of the acappella group Purple Haze with other students from Northwestern University. The group is based in Evanston, Illinois, and has traveled internationally to show off their skills. They have performed in Rome, Dublin and various locations in the United States. One member of the band, simply known as “Medil” has stated in an interview that they secretly don’t want him to win, because they want him back in the group. Other members of the band and one of his professors, Richard Drews believe this is the chance Park needs to launch his career, and believe that “American is going to fall in love with him.” He surprised the judges with an impressive vocal performance. John said when he was a senior in high school, he started applying for voice programs in college even though his parents were very against it. We guess it paid off in the end, when he received four yeses from the Idol judges. Guest judge Shania Twain had the most interesting remarks for John. “I was very surprised,” she said. “You have a beautiful bottom end…You have nice lips…You have a good head.”
