Maddy Curtis is a 16 years old from Bluemont, Virgina which was the second contestant featured in the Boston round of American Idol Season 9 and the first selected by Simon, Randy Kara and guest judge Victoria Beckham to continue on to the Hollywood Round. The ninth of twelfth children, she was the first backstory featured this season. Her next-oldest brother has Down Syndrome, and her family has adopted three more boys with Down Syndrome, leaving Maddy in the middle. Maddy’s mother Barbara operates a Mom Blog, MommyLife.net, about her life experiences and thoughts. Maddy chose to sing Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah”, previously performed on Idol by Jason Castro, for her audition. All four judges voted yes to send Maddy Curtis to Hollywood. The judges were impressed, Simon commenting that she is not annoying like most auditioners at her age. Previous videos featuring Maddy winning second place in the Loudon Symphony’s inaugural talent competition have been removed from YouTube. Her mother’s blog is also temporarily closed. Maddy Curtis is a member of Jake and the Burtones. She is currently living in Bluemont, Virginia, but is originally from Loudoun County, Virginia.
